Top 3 Activities for a Back to School Gathering with the Girls

The kids are headed back to school and it’s time for some well-deserved “treat yourself” time. Even if you’re not a Mom yourself, this time of year is the perfect excuse to grab the girls and relax before the holiday season ensues. In the spirit of that, we’ve put together three activities to do with the girls that pair perfectly with your favorite Scarlett wines.

Rosé + Wine Wars

Wine Wars board game

While board game classics like Monopoly or Scrabble are great options for a night with the girls, if you’re a wine-o like us, you might want a different way to shake up your game night with a more wine-themed challenge. Have you ever heard of Wine Wars? This amusing and intriguing trivia game tests your knowledge of several aspects of wine. Players answer questions in categories such as Vine to Vino (growing grapes, making wine, and world production), Wine Cellar (selecting, storing, and tasting wine), and Cork Culture (wine people, business, arts and science, and trivia). This game is perfect for those new to the world of wine, but challenging enough for the devoted wine-lover. Wine Wars will have you swirling, sniffing, and sipping your way to vinicultural victory! Scarlett Wines Rosé of Grenache

Of course, you can’t possibly play this game without sipping some wine to inspire you, right? Our 2018 Scarlett Rosé of Grenache is the ideal wine to pair with Wine Wars. This playful Rosé boasts a beautiful salmon color with vivid notes of strawberry and sweet honeysuckle on the nose. Notes of blood orange and raspberry intermingle with flavors of wild peach and hints of lavender on the palate. It has a delicate yet intriguing finish, and a beautiful balance of acidity and light sweetness making it a multidimensional offering your girls are sure to love. It’s a little sassy, a little refined – the true essence of this unique game!

Sauvignon Blanc + Book Club

Scarlett Wines Sauvignon BlancAre you and your girlfriends more the book-loving type? We have a pairing for that, too! Indulging in a new book with friends and glasses of wine in your hands is a great bonding experience as you dive in and talk about the story. One of our favorite wine pairings with this pastime is our 2017 Scarlett Sauvignon Blanc.

The Vintners Daughter book

The vibrant blonde color of this wine greets the eyes as the palate displays finesse and powerful, creamy texture. With a balanced level of acidity, the finish offers honeyed accents, succulent pear, and apricot flavors which flow into a finish that is as dramatic and polished as the book you’re enjoying.

Not sure what your next read should be? One of our favorites is The Vintner’s Daughter by Kristen Harnisch. This compelling tale about a spirited young woman from the verdant Loire Valley takes her to turn-of-the-century Manhattan, then to the wide-open spaces of California wine country. The story immerses readers in the rich vineyard culture of both the Old and New Worlds and a dynamic heroine’s fight to determine her destiny.

No matter the genre you choose, our Sauvignon Blanc has the zest and sophistication to accompany any story.

Cabernet Sauvignon + Baking & Movie Night

Scarlett Wines Cabernet SauvignonMaybe you and your friends are self-proclaimed foodies. We like to think we are, too! There are few more classic girls night activities than snacking or baking together and chatting about life. Looking for something a bit saltier, like a snack to pair with a movie?

Pretzels and regular potato chips pair perfectly with a crisp, light white like our 2017 Scarlett Sauvignon Blanc while a zestier option of BBQ potato chips pairs nicely with the hint of spice from our 2017 Scarlett Zinfandel (pepperoni pizza is also a go-to for Zin!). And if you think baked goods might not pair well with a dry wine, think again! An intriguing option is our 2016 Scarlett Cabernet Sauvignon and either peanut butter or chocolate chip cookies.

Now that you’re stocked up on sustenance, take a load off and indulge in your savory snacks with a movie. Whether it be a night for a comedy, a scary film, or a Rom-Com, these pairings will leave you well-fed with the quintessential wine with which to enjoy.

It can sometimes be hard to find time for a girls’ night with hectic schedules, but even just once a month can have positive effects on overall health. Did you know wine is known to keep you more creative, energized, and refreshed? Wine can also help decrease anxiety and is known to lower your stress response. It can even lower blood pressure while increasing blood flow, which can decrease overall stress levels. No matter your excuse for getting together with friends, any occasion is the perfect reason to bond over some delicious Scarlett wine!
