Kid-Friendly Weeknight Dinners – with Wine for Mom and Dad!

The back-to-school season is upon us, and this year is truly unprecedented with the “new normal” that parents and students face both in and out of the classroom. Our goal is not only to ensure you’re stocked up on your Scarlett favorites, but to make the day-to-day easier for you and your family with these seven easy weeknight dishes you can whip up all in an hour or less!

And, that’s not all! Through Labor Day, we’re digging deeper to help our communities and kids any way we can. When you make a purchase with us, a portion of sales will be donated to No Kid Hungry and Scarlett Wines will match that amount. Pick-up your Scarlett favorites, cook a delicious dish, and help prevent childhood hunger with us.

Scarlett Rose

Salmon and Polenta

Dish with a salmon filet, polenta and tomatoes

Total prep and cook time: 35 minutes

Salmon fillets are not only healthy, but they’re a quintessential pairing with Rosé because the salmon has a delicate flavor and the Rosé won’t overpower it. We recommend serving these fillets with grilled polenta, a comforting carb with a hint of sweetness that the kids will love!

Scarlett Sauvignon Blanc

Garlic Chicken with Herbs

Garlic Chicken with HerbsTotal prep and cook time: 30 minutes

Not only is this dish wildly flavorful, but pan-roasting garlic cloves turns them into rich, creamy deliciousness that kids are sure to love! This chicken is fantastic with crusty Italian bread or mashed potatoes on the side. Our Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with Provincial foods because both the wine and cuisine are full of fresh flavors.

Petite Sirah

Pork Sausage Bolognese with Spinach and Carrot Over Spaghetti

Sausage Bolognese with spinach and carrot with spahgettiTotal prep and cook time: 35 minutes

Spaghetti with tomato sauce is one of those timeless family dishes that has a place at virtually every dinner table, but how do you give a recipe that’s so classic a kick? Fill it up with flavorful ingredients like Italian pork sausage, mushrooms, and spinach for a rich, thick, and hearty sauce! It’s a comforting classic without being boring, and the kids will love it.

Petit Verdot

Chicken Fajitas

Skilled of chicken fajitas and veggiesTotal prep and cook time: 35 minutes (note: ideally, the chicken needs to be marinated for two hours prior to cooking – we recommend doing this the night before!)

We love chicken fajitas because they’re a warm, comforting option for impending cooler evenings, but still have a hint of sizzle from summer to it! This recipe has deliciously seasoned chicken, a trio of fresh bell peppers, and tender, crisp onions. Boldly flavored and sautéed with garlic, it pairs with our Petit Verdot due to its complementary spicy flavor profile.

One-Pot Cajun Chicken Pasta

Dish of Cajun Chicken pastaTotal prep and cook time: 30 minutes

You can have this creamy and comforting pasta with chicken on the table in just 30 minutes and, best of all, it all cooks in one pot — you won’t even need to boil water first! It’s packed with tender chicken thighs, bell peppers, and onions, and finished off with a creamy tomato sauce. Cajun dishes are known to pair well with Zinfandel because of their complementary peppery, savory flavors, which makes this delicious for the kids and even more delicious for you!

Cabernet Sauvignon

No-Bake Lasagna

Dish of no bake lasagnaTotal prep and cook time: 1 hour

This flavor-packed dish requires next-to-no effort, and bonus – it’s prepared in one pot, which is great when you don’t want to wash dishes at the end of a long day!

The savory Italian sausage and heartiness of this recipe makes pairing it with our classic Cabernet Sauvignon a no-brainer. The sauce in lasagna tends to be on the rich side, so choosing a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon will complement it nicely.

Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

DIY Hamburgers

Cheeseburger on a tableTotal prep and cook time: ~45 minutes

There’s nothing quite like a classic burger to add a little happiness to your week! We like to get together all of the fixings one might put on a burger (think: cheese, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, pickles, onion, even bacon, if you’re so inclined!) and let the kids build their own. If you’re trying to eat a little leaner, try making the patty out of ground turkey or try this great veggie burger, here. With a plethora of flavors in one bite, a big, ripe, elegant wine with balanced intensity such as our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon will round out this fun weeknight meal for the adults, while still making it a fun bonding experience for the kids.
